Help regarding career in acting.

I love movies and always wanted to be an actress but I have stage fright and can’t talk in front of people. But my best friend had changed her major to acting and hasn’t had that much luck in getting extra rolls. We both signed up for Louisiana casting but didn’t get that many calls because some directors wanted very specific people. I would love to just be an extra really and been on a movie set behind the scenes organizing people or something. First question: Is there any way to really get into being an extra or maybe even working on a movie set as something minor to start? Since my best friend really wants to pursue acting I was wondering if there was anything i could tell her that would help her get more call backs somewhere to look for casting extra and getting some minor parts?

Regarding you having stage fright, you can maybe sign up for some drama classes or take an acting workshop so you can work on becoming more comfortable acting or simply talking in front of people. If your interest would be to work behind the scenes, I will honestly tell you it is generally quite difficult to get a job on a movie set when you do not have any experience to back you up or know some contacts in the business. In order to get some experience, you can maybe see at school or in your community if anyone might be putting together a short film or working on a short for a class project. You can even put something together yourself and learn as you go along. Maybe even consider taking film production at the college or university level. You could also maybe try sending your cv to production companies and ask them if you can be a production assistant on set or be an intern. Regarding your friend, she doesn't just have to be stuck at one agency if she is merely signed up as an extra. If that is not the case, tell her to send her photo and resume to other casting agencies as well to increase her chances of getting work. She can also check the classifieds in the newspapers, as sometimes productions advertise auditions. She can also get involved in community theater to get some experience and maybe make some contacts. Most importantly just be patient. This is a competitive business so you have to work hard and stay positive to succeed. I wish the both of you good luck.
