I would like to know how I can be an actress. I am just 12 years old and my parents do not know how I start an acting career. What do I need to do? How much money and time will I need? And what is the probability that I could become an actress?

    Dear Daniella

Becoming an actress is a tough thing to do. It requires discipline, hard work, and a good mindset to do this. Try to remember that no actor gets every part they try out for.

The first thing you have to do is get an agent. Agents are people who represent an actor, they get them auditions. When a casting director is looking for actors to audition for them, they go to agents, or agents go to them, and the casting directors see a profile book. A profile book has headshots in it, pictures of an actors face and shoulders (usually) showing the casting director a basic image, if the casting director wants to see more of them. To get an agent, look in the yellow pages, phonebook, internet, newspaper, or local theatre. Agents do not usually cost money directly.

Headshots are the other thing you will need. Headshots, as I described earlier, are basic shots of the actor/actress. These can range from a price of $100-$1000, depending on quality and professionalism of the photo.

You will need a bit of time on your hands, for interviews, auditions, whatever. You will also need some money, probably only for headshots.

The probability of you becoming an actress: High the probability of you being the front cover of celebrity magazine: Relatively low, although anything is possible.

Thanks, Daniella! If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.
