Memphis mafia was a group of close associates who always surrounded Elvis, and stuck to him at all times, there are several accounts regarding Memphis mafia. Many criticize the role of Memphis mafia in Presley’s life. As their impact in his life is termed as parasitic; who cashed on his wealth. They were always around the singer, and involved him in many degenerative activities, that finally became the ultimate source of his downfall. Presley had been using drugs for quite a long time, and no one dared to stop him from using the drugs. Journalist John Harris puts the evil effect of Memphis mafia on Elvis Presley in these words; "it was no wonder that as he slid into addiction and torpor, no-one raised the alarm: to them, Elvis was the bank, and it had to remain open." Tonny Brown who played Presley’s pianist in the last two years of Presley’s life talked about the Memphis Mafia in these words; "But we all knew it was hopeless because Elvis was surrounded by that little circle of people ... all those so-called friends". Though Memphis mafia exerted great influence on Presley’s life but it was all negative, which further drowned the actor in his complete destruction.
