Question:

Abdominals and Alignment

Hello,
I have a general alignment question. I know that you're supposed to use your abdominals to maintain your posture but I've still never understood the "pull your bellybutton into your spine" cue. It seemed like this just resulted in a sucked in stomach and prominent ribs. Through trial and error I figured that it seems to come more from the lower abs and pelvis muscles. Similar to Pilates. However I tend to get a little strain in my back from this so I'm wondering if it's incorrect or if it has to do with strength between the muscle groups? Thank you for your help.

Exercises for the spine alignment and consistent workouts for ab can improve overall wellbeing fastly by strengthening the core torso muscles. In many types of exercise and athletics, the “core” muscles (the muscles of the abdomen, pelvis and mid- to lower-back) are considered especially important, keeping the spine aligned and acting as the anchor points for most of the body’s movement. Targeting involuntary muscles of the core, those small muscles used for laughing, crying and coughing, can help strengthen the body in ways often overlooked by traditional fitness routines. In this free ab and core muscle video series, fitness expert Ben Jurand teaches the secret of ripped abs and a strong core. Jurand's key is alignment, and he stresses working out with the skeleton in mind.
To build a stronger core, exercisers can think of shifting the skeleton, not just contracting muscles. Jurand shelters raising the shoulder knives and tail bone, squeezing the stomach and abdomen, raising the legs, and urgent the rear to the floor in a series of exercises planned for tore abs.
