98 catera oil cooler. instead of just replacing the oil cooler can i take the lines off the bottom

instead of just replacing the oil cooler can i take the lines off the bottom end of the block and just cap them off completely or will i cause other issues?

    it will cause loss of oil preasure to top end of motor been there done that
