   Hi! there. You have the following options to convert a 7 speed to 8 speed 8-speed shifters generally work OK on 7-speed setups. If you stick with 7-speeds, that should be fine. If you plan to upgrade the cassette to more than 7 speeds, though, I would advise against 8-speeds. It makes more sense to upgrade to 9-speed, as the expensive part of this conversion is the shifter, and you already need a shifter for the conversion The only additional parts you need for 9-speed are a new chain and cassette, and these are normally consumable parts anyway Some folks will tell you that you need a lot of other stuff to convert an 8-speed bike to 9-speed, but its all wrong.
