I saw this movie when I was around 8 years old and I will be 49 tomorrow. In this film, some caribbean type indians tie a man to a manchineel tree (hippomane manchinella) as a torture. Before doing so, they threaten other hideous tortures, but the man scoffs until they mention the machine tree - then he starts screaming. Later they show him tied to the tree looking frightful. As frightful as black and white TV could be. I found only one reference to it on some web board - similar to my description, but no knowledge of the date or title or actors.
