Hi Aesha,
My family and I will be visiting NZ in either late may-early june for 3wks or sept for 2wks. These are the only two options we have. Could you please tell me when is the best option to visit regarding the following points of consideration: 1. we want to do the Heli/hike on Franz joseph glacier. 2. i love photography so i would prefer resonable conditions for photos, ie, which of the two options (june or sept) would be best for less wind and rain and cloudiness. 3. we want to visit milford sound - boat trip. 4. tranzalpine train journey. 5. to do the tongarario crossing 8 hr hike on the nth island. 6. we plan to spend two thirds of our time on the south island and one third on the north. I have two boys (then they will be 16 and 13). We also are wondering what would be the best way to travel - hire car/onite cabins or campervan. We are trying to do this on a reasonably tight budget and are not interested in the fancy or posh resorts and wining and dining. We enjoy the country alot and a few of the fun/thrilling activities with the children. We also don't mind the odd day where not alot is done. I would appreciate all the helpful information you could give me. Thankyou kindly, Mike Harrison.

New Zealand is perfect to visit all year round. Traveling is more enjoyable, however, during the warmer summer months, which are April and November .The Christmas is ranked as one of the busiest period, with the schools vacations in the second half of December and all of January. Therefore it is suggested that November, February and April as the perfect months to visit in New Zealand. Skiing is, of course, only possible during the winter months and is generally astonishing during July and August. It is highly recommend about arranging travel insurance that includes accidents. However no vaccination certificates are required to enter New Zealand. If you are planning to visit New Zealand between the colder months between then must bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket along with you. This is especially significant in alpine areas where the weather can change suddenly.

It is also important to have the knowledge that the climate is colder the further south you travel. Insect repellent for mosquitoes and sunscreen for the strong sun rays are also essential during the summer month’s trip. You can purchase easily upon your arrival. Due to the importance of agriculture in the economy, many restrictions are implemented on animal products, fruit, plant material, and foodstuffs being bought into the country. So, it is better that not to bring them. Such travelers who are planning to bring medication are advised to have a doctor's certificate in order to avoid possible problems with Customs. Every person landing in New Zealand must fill the arrival card handed out on the aircraft.
