1953 248 gmc motor

I've been told I have either a 228 or 248 gmc motor.. appox date 1953... Looking for a push rod... measures appox 12 and 7/8" in length... every web site I've been to tells me it should measure 10 and 5/8" What have I got? Markings on the motor are all gmc
